Chapter 7
Jon was an idiot. Or in Mattâs words, he was a dumb fuck. Jon couldnât disagree. He groaned and massaged the bruise that was forming on his cheek where Eve slapped him.
Matt was alternating between laughing at him and staring at him.
âIf you have something to say, then say it,â Jon spat. They were standing at the parking lot next to Mattâs car. Eve was gone. Sheâd stomped off after slapping him, and he hadnât been able to stop her.
âWell of course, I have something to say. Iâm trying to figure out the most insulting way to word it,â Matt said. He chuckled again, sighing loudly, as he wiped a tear from his eye.
âYouâre so stupid itâs almost hard to believe,â Matt commented. His voice was so serious that Jon felt himself scowl.
âI get it, okay? I did something stupidââ Matt barked a laugh interrupting him.
âOh, this was more than just stupid.â
Jon wasnât sure if he was annoyed because of Mattâs constant jabs, or if he was annoyed because he couldnât deny anything Matt was saying.
What he did was probably the dumbest, most embarrassing thing heâd done in his life, and not only had he embarrassed himself, but heâd embarrassed Eve as well. Matt was shameless, so of course, he hadnât been the least bit embarrassed. Jon could swear he saw him chuckle when they walked out of the restaurant. He sighed and ran a hand over his face. What was he even doing? He was doing things that were unlike him; storming into a restaurant to take her back? She was never his to begin with.
He wasnât an impulsive man, but it seemed like things were different when it came to her. He still didnât really know what he was doing, but the thought of her being with Matt, the thought of them actually hitting it off and starting a relationship made him so anxious. He'd held on to the words Matt had jokingly challenged him with and ended up messing things up more. He buried his head in his hands as Matt continued talking.
âHow the hell do you plan on apologizing to her? What could you do to atone for this anyway? She might not even want to speak to you,â Matt said. That was true. If she didnât talk to him then how would he even apologize? He shook away the assumptions and glared at Matt.
âHey, donât look at me like that. You were the one who barged into a restaurant, not me.â
âYou told me to come and get her,â he grumbled, knowing it was a pathetic excuse.
âI didnât mean it literally, you dolt. What were you even thinking?â
âI was thinking that I wouldnât be able to stand it if she ended up getting close to you,â he answered honestly. Watching her getting closer to Matt would be a nightmare for him. He selfishly wanted to know more about her. More than anyone else knew. He wanted sides of her that sheâd only show to him.
Jon had never fallen in love before.
